About Me, Rana A Fine, Ph.D.
As a professor, I have dedicated over forty years to researching the ocean's influence on Earth's changing climate, which has fostered a deep concern and affinity for the ocean and its coastal environments. I have published nearly 100 peer-reviewed papers in academic journals and mentored graduate and undergraduate students. My work has been supported by decades of research grants from the U.S. government. I have focused on using measurements of time-dependent anthropogenic trace gases to assess changes in the global ocean uptake and release of important gases such as carbon dioxide and oxygen. I have also taken on leadership roles in the National Research Council, professional societies, and international global change programs. My scholarship and leadership have been recognized through my election as a fellow by professional societies, such as the American Geophysical Union, American Meteorological Society, The Oceanography Society, and AAAS. Additionally, the University of Miami honored me with the Provost’s Award for scholarly activity. For a full curriculum vitae, visit the Rosenstiel School, University of Miami.
I've always been drawn to art and enjoy travel photography. When I retired from my tenured position, I started taking photography classes at the University of Miami. Since, my passion has grown for using photography to express my concern for the ocean's coastal environment. This website is designed to challenge people to visualize the blue ocean ecosystem as a nature-based champion fighter for climate change.
